Retrofit services for councils and social housing providers
We can help you upgrade your social housing, making homes warmer, more energy-efficient, and cheaper to heat.
We provide full project management for installations of energy-efficiency measures in social homes. This work draws on over 45 years of energy saving expertise and decades of experience working with councils, private housing associations and installers to deliver high-quality retrofit projects across thousands of homes.
The government has set a target for all social homes to reach an EPC rating of C or above by 2030 – but across the country, many social houses still fall short of this mark. We can help you upgrade your housing stock to this level, cutting carbon emissions and energy bills at the same time.
But it’s about more than government targets – everyone deserves to live in a warm and healthy home. As a charity, we provide independent oversight to ensure all installations are of the highest quality, because we’ve seen first-hand the suffering caused by inadequate measures and cold homes.
Our upgrades aren’t quick fixes motivated by profit – they’re long-term, sustainable solutions that benefit both landlords and tenants for years to come.

Upgrading 1,000 social homes for Somerset council
We’ve been working with Somerset council to transform their social housing stock into comfortable and climate-friendly homes.
Worried about funding or staff resource?
Many of these projects can be funded by ECO funding, which significantly reduces upgrade costs for local authorities and registered social landlords. We’ve got experience in working with the ECO Grants team and can help you find and apply for the right funding for your project.
There may also be other funding available for upgrading your social housing. We have experience supporting local authorities to deliver all aspects of the Warm Homes: Local Grant and can help registered social housing providers to apply to the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund. Find out more about our work with these funding schemes.
As part of our full project management service, we take care of working with tenants, liaising with installers, and quality assessment the whole way through. We often only need to work with one or two contacts from the council or housing association we’re working with. We’ll put in the time to ensure your workload is as light as possible.
We support tenants beyond the installation phase
We also work with tenants to develop Smart Energy Action Plans (SMEAPs). This work is fully funded by National Grid. SMEAPs help tenants make sense of their new technologies and enable them to get the most out of their upgraded homes.
This approach doesn’t just help tenants – it delivers multiple benefits for landlords too:
- Reduced complaints and call-backs. Tenants who understand their systems are less likely to report ‘problems’ that are actually user issues.
- Higher tenant satisfaction. Confident tenants become advocates for retrofit programmes.
- Reduced maintenance costs. Educated tenants use systems correctly, reducing wear and damage.
It’s not just a one-off fix for your housing stock – it’s about promoting long-term behavioural changes to ensure your tenants feel the full benefits of their improved homes. We’ll provide retrofit that actually works long-term – with happy tenants who champion the improvements rather than complain about them.
