We’re upgrading 1,000 social homes for Somerset Council
To meet government targets, all social housing must reach an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of at least C by 2030. With many social houses still falling short of this mark, energy upgrades are critical – helping to cut carbon emissions and energy bills at the same time.
In partnership with Somerset Council, SCIS Group and the ECO Grants Team, we’ve been delivering an ambitious retrofit programme across the region, raising property EPC ratings of E or below to C or above.
We’ve already transformed over 500 cold, damp houses into comfortable and climate-friendly homes that are cheaper to keep warm. Installations included innovative solar panels with built-in optimisers, air source heat pumps replacing outdated electric storage heaters, loft and cavity wall insulation, and smart energy monitoring systems.
Alongside these measures, we’ve also helped residents with Smart Energy Action Plans to help them get the most out of the new install.
It was very cold, very damp. Now it’s just more comfortable, a lot cosier and warmer. I was following the smart meter, I just couldn’t believe it, it was a lot cheaper.

The majority of the work was fully funded through ECO funding. Funding like this can significantly reduce upgrade costs for local authorities and registered social landlords.

Working alongside Somerset Council, SCIS Group, and the ECO Grants Team, we’ve been able to ensure that every installation meets the highest standards while delivering maximum energy savings for residents. This collaborative approach is exactly what’s needed to tackle fuel poverty and meet our climate commitments across the social housing sector.
