CSE is committed to ensuring that all data gathered by this website is handled appropriately and securely. This section tells you what information we collect and what we use it for, how we store it, with whom we share it, and whether it may be transferred outside the European Economic Area. In general, we will only collect the information we need to provide you with the service which you have requested. For example, if you subscribe to our e-news we only collect your email address in order to send you our monthly e-news and occasional updates such as job alerts or information about events.
Where we ask for more information – for example on a couple of pages in the home energy advice section of the site – this is to help us give you the advice you have asked for, and you are free not to provide us with more information if you prefer.
The information we hold is subject to the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) and may be disclosed under the FOIA.
Email addresses submitted by signers-up to our enews are stored securely by Mailchimp. If you wish to be removed from this database, you can unsubscribe by clicking on the link on the foot of the newsletter or other mailing.
Other information is stored on Kinsta, the server that hosts this website, and also by us in a digital format and on paper at our offices. We view data security seriously and take appropriate technical and organisational measures against its unauthorised or unlawful processing and against its accidental loss, destruction or damage. CSE is registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) (registration number Z7115671). We manage data in accordance with the eight principles of the Data Protection Act 1998.
Our website has an SSL (HTTPS) certificate to ensure that personal data collected via web forms is secured against interception by a third party.
You have a statutory right to see a copy of the information we hold about you on payment of a fee – currently £10. Requests must be made in writing to the address above.
Any other personal data we take will be maintained in accordance with law, and used for the purposes of contacting those people on the issues, such as energy advice, for which they signed up.
We respect the privacy of users of our websites. We do not disclose confidential information to any other person, except with express prior written consent.
We will give third party suppliers who supply services to us (e.g. as part of hardware or software maintenance) or who process information on our behalf (such as a hosting company) incidental access to your information. We will disclose your information to enforcement authorities if asked to do so, or to a third party in the context of actual or threatened legal proceedings.

If any provision of these terms and conditions is held by any court or other competent authority to be void or unenforceable in whole or part, the other provisions of these terms and conditions and the remainder of the affected provisions shall continue to be valid. Nothing in these terms and conditions shall exclude or limit our liability for death or personal injury due to its negligence or for fraudulent misrepresentation.
