Welsh Government Smart Living Initiative

Review of progress and learnings from initial eight demonstrator projects in Wales to March 2018
By AD Research & Analysis with the Centre for Sustainable Energy
For the Decarbonisation and Energy Division, Welsh Government

This report provides a snapshot of the Welsh Government’s Smart Living Initiative and is based on research into the progress of eight of the 12 ‘demonstrator projects’ that were involved in the initiative.

These were technical projects in the low-carbon energy space and included a geothermal scheme utilising groundwater in former mine shafts; hydrogen fuel combined heat and power in public buildings; and the use of smart technologies to enhance services.

The report explores the value achieved and emerging from each demonstrator, before synthesising the learnings arising from across all eight. The commentary ends with a set of conclusions and recommendations.
