In 2019, CSE published the first Smart & Fair report warning about the emergence of a two-tiered energy system that works well for some but leaves other behind. Last winter we saw evidence of this becoming a reality. Some people were earning incentives from flexibility services, while others were coming off supply and visiting warm spaces, unable to keep their homes habitable.

In this report we summarise the work we have been doing with our supporting partners and funders to improve market monitoring, develop smart energy advice and evidence how different consumers are able to participate in and benefit from the transition to a smarter, greener energy system.
