Coco: Bridging passion and policy in environmental economics

For Coco, Bright Green Future (BGF) offered a refreshing focus on environmental issues often overlooked in traditional education.

Usually at school the focus isn’t on the environment, but here at Bright Green Future everything is about the environment, sustainable energy and just transitions. It was really interesting, especially at today’s graduation, talking with all the professionals and being inspired about all the opportunities available to me.

Gaining clarity on career aspirations

BGF helped Coco refine her career aspirations in environmental economics.

“I’m thinking about working in environmental economics and how governments will distribute their budgets appropriately for the environment.”

Real-world insights

The programme provided Coco with valuable insights into the challenges of environmental funding, even in cities known for their climate action.

“Learning about the funding opportunity, it’s really interesting hearing about how environment action is quite underfunded even in Bristol, the city is so prominent for climate action.”

Advice for other students

Despite initial nerves, Coco found the experience rewarding and she encourages others to participate.
“It was really daunting to me at first, like coming to a new environment with new people, but it was really fun and I’m really glad that I came.”

Coco’s experience demonstrates how BGF is bridging the gap between young people’s passion for the environment and the realities of policy and funding. By exposing participants to these crucial aspects of environmental work, BGF is preparing the next generation of environmental economists and policy makers.
