Discounted home energy surveys in North Somerset

Exclusive discounts are available for home surveys in North Somerset, helping you to understand how to make your home more energy efficient.

If you’ve found this page you’re likely eligible for money off your chosen survey. To be eligible you must:

Why have an energy efficiency survey?

A home energy survey is a great first step to making your home more sustainable, helping you to save energy and money in the long term. Many homes leak heat through windows and doors and uninsulated walls, knowing the right action to take to save bills and cut carbon is difficult.

Home surveys can pinpoint your home’s specific problems, helping you know where to start with making improvements. You’ll learn the steps you need to take to fix issues, appropriate energy improvement measures like insulation and draughtproofing, and what renewable energy technologies – like heat pumps and solar panels – could work for your home and your circumstances.

What is retrofit?

You may have heard the phrase ‘retrofit’. Energy improvements measures like insulation and draughtproofing are sometimes referred to as retrofit measures. Retrofit simply means fitting new measures in buildings after they’ve been built.

Home energy efficiency surveys available

Several discounted survey options are available through CSE and Chapter 2 Architects depending on your budget and the level of detail you want. Below are the surveys we recommend, but you can use your discount on any of Chapter 2 Architects’ surveys, which you can view on their website.

CSE
Home Energy Plan

Cost: £135 with voucher discount
It takes: 2 hours
What you get: A home visit from one of our qualified retrofit assessors, providing a walkthrough of your property and discussing what energy improvements are suitable for your home. This information will be summarised in a report for your future reference.
How to book: Complete this booking form.

The Home Energy Plan provides an overview of your property’s energy efficiency and heat loss, in lived conditions. An assessor will visit your property and discuss the improvements that you are considering, those you may not have considered and what is suitable for your home.

The assessor will walk you through your property, pointing out potential improvement opportunities, ranging from quick wins and easy fixes to deeper retrofit options.

The assessor will also look at your current energy performance certificate (EPC) and see if there are any key differences between what your EPC shows versus what the assessor finds during the visit. EPCs don’t always reflect recent changes and sometimes original assessors overlook aspects of the property. With this survey, you’ll have a much more accurate picture of the energy efficiency of your home.

This visit, including all information and options discussed, will be summarised in a digestible report for you to keep.

Chapter 2 Architects

How to book: Email and quote NS250.

Chapter 2 Architects will visit your home and help diagnose any problem areas around heat loss, draughts and lack of comfort in winter or summer. You can also discuss any short-term plans for remodelling or extending, and how this might impact on energy efficiency. During the winter months the survey also includes thermographic imaging to identify heat loss. You’ll receive a bespoke report with helpful diagrams and images based on the findings.

The Retrofit Opportunities Plan runs through each measure in turn ranging from quick DIY actions to adding insulation, upgrading your heating system or adding renewable technologies. You’ll gather greater insight into how your home currently performs along with easy wins, short-term and long-term steps to reduce energy, increase comfort and save money.

Alex Bell has 25 years’ experience in construction covering sustainable design, the Passivhaus standard, and the PAS 2035 Retrofit approach, and has worked on both domestic and commercial buildings.

Thermographic Imaging Report

Cost: £50 with the voucher discount
It takes: 1 hour
What you get: A thermographic imaging survey and report from qualified Retrofit Coordinator and Architect, Alex Bell.
How to book: Email and quote NS250.

This report uses thermographic imaging to identify the areas of heat loss in your home. These are typically through poorly insulated elements of the building’s fabric (walls, floors, roofs) and at the junctions with doors and window.

Chapter 2 Architects will conduct a thermal imaging survey of your home. This will go room by room internally and also analyse the building from the outside. It is a very enlightening and interactive process which most homeowners enjoy participating in. You’ll receive a report documenting these areas offering both diagnosis of the issues along with suggestions for improvements through insulation or draughtproofing measures.
