Local delivery for net zero

We support local authorities and communities take local action on energy-related net zero goals in a socially just way.

With knowledge, data and expertise, we help drive forward decarbonisation. We pioneer new approaches and analytical techniques for local energy decision-makers. Our goal is to support action on climate change at all levels, from individuals to communities, parishes, towns, cities, regions, and at national level.

We combine thought leadership with practical support. Building on our work with the Energy Systems Catapult to develop the original Local Area Energy Planning (LAEP) method, we understand the uncertainties and complexities of getting to net zero. We know the barriers that local communities face. We work in partnership with local authorities and communities to develop strategies, prioritise the next best steps to reduce carbon emissions and put plans into action. 

Open access net zero planning tools used extensively by local actors have been pioneered by CSE (including the Impact Community Carbon Calculator Tool, Solar Wizard and Future Energy Landscapes). These combine rigorous technical modelling with proven engagement processes, ensuring support is robust and socially grounded.
