Shantha Shanmugalingam
26 August 2025

We are excited to share that Shantha Shanmugalingam has been appointed as the new Chair of Trustees for the Centre for Sustainable Energy.

Having served as a trustee since October 2018, and previously holding the role of Deputy Chair, Shantha understands CSE’s mission and work deeply. He also brings a wealth of expertise from a career focused on delivery of sustainability and social mobility.

Currently NED/COO at Pinwheel, Shantha works with environmental organisations and corporates to increase funding for crucial carbon and biodiversity projects. He also works with universities to embed work experience opportunities into curriculums. His career includes renewables policy work at the DTI, climate change at HM Treasury (including the Stern Review), Global Strategy Director at Dyson, and Chief Commercial Officer at ROLI.

Shantha’s leadership will be invaluable in ensuring our board continues to provide challenge, insight and support as we develop our work and increase our impact as a charity. We’re excited to have him help us to steer our course as we drive forward our vital work towards delivering a greener, smarter and fairer energy system.

Janine Michael, CSE’s Chief Executive

Commenting on his appointment, Shantha said,

I have loved being a trustee of Centre for Sustainability Energy. Over this time, CSE has seen a lot of growth and change. Throughout, the charity has maintained its community spirit and unique approach of focusing on pragmatic delivery and translating that back to tangible policy insights.

We live in a country where millions of people cannot pay their energy bills. We also live in fragile times where the voices raging against action on climate are becoming louder. Ensuring there is a just transition is critical. Helping CSE navigate and grow through these times is an exciting and important opportunity.
