Climate Action Report
At the Centre for Sustainable Energy, we believe we owe it to current and future generations for the UK to reduce carbon emissions rapidly in line with the national target of net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. It’s what we mean by ‘sustainable energy’ and it’s why we exist.
Our Climate Action Report measures our emissions across three scopes, as most organisations do, but we are in the unique position to also consider the beneficial impacts of our work. In 2023-24, retrofit measures that we facilitated resulted in 900 tonnes of avoided CO₂ emissions – around half of our own total footprint.
Now that we have a baseline carbon footprint, we can track progress and set ambitious and realistic climate targets. We are committed to:
- Net zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030.
- A 30% reduction in Scope 3 emissions by 2030, with our 2023-24 emissions as a baseline.
- Net zero across all scopes by 2040, with year-on-year reductions in line with that goal.
We won’t reduce the support we provide to people in fuel poverty to hit these numbers, and we will keep reporting the emissions our work prevents as part of an honest account of our total climate impact.
