Healthy Homes Dorset - insulating homes in Dorset
Working with Dorset council and Dorset Public Health
Project duration: January 2017 ongoing
Healthy Homes Dorset is a county-wide programme that offers free loft and cavity wall insulation as well as replacement heating systems to Dorset residents. In addition to the free insulation services, the project will offer expert advice and support on how to keep your home warm, save money on energy bills, and reduce damp, mould and condensation.
The programme will specifically target those who are suffering the effects of living in a cold home - hence the name, Healthy Homes Dorset. Under-heated, cold homes are a major cause of ill-health and contribute significantly to winter pressures on the NHS. Despite the fact that the UK rarely experiences extremely cold winters, every winter more people in the UK die of the cold than in other much colder countries, such as Sweden. By improving the energy efficiency of houses through insulation the programme hopes to make a substantial contribution to making all Dorset's homes healthy and comfortable.
The service is funded by Public Health Dorset, designed and managed by Dorset council and delivered by the Centre for Sustainable Energy and Evolve Home Energy Solutions. The programme also has its own website, available at healthyhomesdorset.org.uk.
