The Home Energy Team
A free, local and impartial advice service from CSE
CSE’s Home Energy Team has grown and developed since we launched our own energy advice line at the start of April 2012, following the end of our three-and-a-half-year contract delivering the local hub of the Energy Saving Trust advice centre. CSE’s home energy advice line now provides residents of Bath & North East Somerset, Bristol, North Somerset and Somerset with a free, local and impartial energy advice service, as well as being the first point of contact for CSE’s advice projects and insulation schemes.
The advice line is funded by Bristol, Bath & North East Somerset, North Somerset, Mendip, Sedgemoor, South Somerset and Somerset West & Taunton councils. Because of the link between fuel poverty and health problems, funding is also provided by some local Primary Care Trusts.
The freephone advice line is staffed by our team of trained energy advisors, who answer a wide range of questions about saving energy in the home, keeping warm in winter and lowering fuel bills.
Our advisors are City & Guilds qualified in both energy awareness and renewable energy in the home and between them can draw on more than 50 years of experience in delivering high quality energy saving advice to domestic householders.
Here's a video of us at work:
The advice line helped 6,159 people in its first year. With energy bills on the rise, and fuel poverty a growing problem, there is obviously a demand for this service. We’re proud of our knowledgeable, friendly advisors who have made our advice line a trusted place to come for free, impartial advice. The Home Energy Team regularly carries out customer satisfaction monitoring, which shows that around 90% of callers are happy with the service they receive.
How we can help
The team can offer:
- Advice on energy saving measures – Insulation, ventilation, heating systems, glazing, lighting and appliances
- Helping customers get to grips with complex grant legislation and how best to navigate schemes such as the Green Deal and Energy Company Obligation
- Referrals to external grant schemes
- Reading meters and understanding energy bills
- Advice on solar panels, heat pumps and other renewable energy technologies
- No cost and low cost energy saving tips
- Signposting to other areas of support e.g. Citizens Advice and debt advice agencies.
The advice line is complemented by the ‘Love Your Home’ website, which has plenty of information about saving energy around the home: www.cse.org.uk/loveyourhome
The advice pages are always popular, as energy bills continue to rise and home energy efficiency schemes hit the headlines. As a result we now receive enquiries from all over the country which shows that people are seeking us out as a trusted source of quality advice and information.
Along with the website and advice line, the Home Energy Team provides a wide range of advice factsheets free to customers. We have around 50 factsheets which include guidance on all Green Deal eligible improvements. You can see them all here. The factsheets are regularly sent out by email and post well as distributed at local events and on home visits. They’re also free to download and share.
Working in partnership
The Home Energy Team can partner with other organisations in Bristol and Somerset to achieve common goals. We can set up referral mechanisms to enable clients to benefit from our expertise with energy advice and your expertise with your service. Previous examples of our partnership work include working with the Care and Repair services, debt advice agencies, GP surgeries and other charities. If you want to talk to us about partnership working, please get in touch by email.
