Watch our Bristol Sustainable Energy Research Fund Event
26 April 2021
Last month (11 March), CSE was delighted to host a very successful event for the Bristol Sustainable Energy Research Fund event. The Bristol Sustainable Energy Research Fund offers grants of up to £5,000 to support researchers investigating the relationship between people and energy.
68 stakeholders joined the event to discuss their perspectives on how democratic processes can engage with the City Leap initiative and how we can have a more integrated energy system that ensures no one is left behind.
A recording of the event is available here
We heard from two of our fantastic funded researchers. Dr Emilia Melville and Jack Nicholls. They presented findings from their joint project “Energy Democracy in Bristol's City Leap”.
This research is investigating possible forms of democratic participation in Bristol City Council’s City Leap project (such as citizen advisory boards or similar) which have buy-in from key stakeholders in neighbourhoods and communities in Bristol, Bristol City Council’s democracy agenda, the community energy sector, and the City Leap project.
Jack and Emilia discussed many aspects of their research findings, including how Bristol’s citizen assembly on climate change may evolve and could become a regular form of engagement to ensure a fairer outcome for all.
CSE’s Graham McGrath would like to thank everyone for your passionate contributions to the discussions and Emilia and Jack for their engaging and inspiring presentations.
