‘A record year’ – CSE publishes Annual Report for 2018-19

26 September 2019

Our Annual Report and financial statements for the year ended 31 March 2019 have been published and can be downloaded here.

They show what was probably the busiest year in our 40 year history, with a record level of turnover, up 35% on the previous year (2017-18). The charity also returned a healthy surplus in the year, replenishing reserves for investment in future projects and subsidising our free energy advice service.

Anne Obey OBE, Chair of CSE’s Board of Trustees, said: “It’s great to see CSE growing its impact so significantly in 2018-19 and demonstrating our ability to secure funding for the charity’s important work. The Trustees are delighted that the very positive financial performance last year has enabled us to invest from our reserves in a significant new programme. This will be providing free strategic advice and practical support to local authorities and other organisations to help them develop and then deliver effective responses to the climate emergency.”

The annual review highlights our work during 2018-19 in relation to the five high level objectives which describe the outcomes we are trying to achieve and form the core of our organisational strategy:

  1. No one suffers a cold home.
  2. Everyone empowered to take action and support sustainable energy.
  3. Every building low carbon and liveable.
  4. Places shaped for sustainable energy.
  5. A rapidly decarbonising energy system that works for everyone.

CSE's chief executive, Simon Roberts, said "This Annual Report is testament to the dedicated work of our staff and volunteers, the effectiveness of our Board of Trustees, and the support of our funders and clients. When those elements are all in place, we can make a real difference on a sustained basis.”
