Launch of fuel poverty advice project in Weston

12 February 2019

This Friday (15 February) our energy advice team will be in Weston-super-Mare launching a new project offering support to people facing fuel poverty in Burnham and Weston.

They'll be at the Sovereign Shopping Centre close to the sea-front giving advice to on how to save energy and cut gas and electricity bills.

Mark Tyler will be among them. "The questions we always get asked are how to cut energy bills. Should I switch supplier? What can I do to make my home less cold and damp? We also help many people who find themselves in debt to their gas or electricity company."

"And we'll be helping people apply for the Warm Home Discount - that's £140 off your electricity bills - and, if appropriate, sign them up for priority service in case of a power cut."

The advice team have borrowed a bicycle-powered smoothie machine so people can make a healthy drink as well as picking up energy advice.

And they'll be joined on the day by representatives of Burnham & Weston Energy, a local community energy initiative. They manage the community-owned Wick Solar Farm, and it is income from this 9.3 megawatt solar array that is paying for the advice that CSE is giving in the Burnham, Weston and nearby areas of Somerset.
