Beating Blue Monday
CSE join 40 organisations at one-stop advice and support event
16 January 2017
Today (16 January) is 'Blue Monday', said by some to be the 'most depressing day of the year'. It's dark and cold, Christmas has passed and the green shoots of spring have yet to arrive.
It's also a time where people worry about money and bills. If you're vulnerable, January can be a critical time and not knowing where to turn for help can be a huge barrier to accessing support.
In recognition of this, over 40 local organisations including CSE get together at the Galleries shopping centre in Bristol to offer support on money, housing, benefits, physical and mental health, energy efficiency, refugee rights, getting into work and training, volunteering and more.
The event is called 'Blue Monday Bristol', and this year's was as busy as ever. "It's like a trade fair for the city's help agencies" said Paul Winney who spent the day talking to people worried about staying warm during the current cold snap and paying their bills. "It provides an opportunity for hundreds of people to have informal chats with a range of experts and to access the help they need."
And there was fun stuff, too, including live music, games and competetions and plenty of chances to win some freebies too.
