Energy advice in Bristol and Somerset libraries
Big Lottery funded outreach
15 March 2016
Bristol and Somerset’s libaries have been a little busier than normal since we started holding energy advice sessions within their walls at the start of this year. So far, Clevedon, Bath, Bedminster and Worle libraries have each hosted one or two sessions, and our volunteers have helped 200 people with tailored advice that you can’t get off the bookshelf.
"Libraries are genuine community assetts and a great place to meet people looking for advice on how to save money at home," says Heather Crane who is managing this outreach. The librarians are pleased to see us and we're getting a good response from visitors, too."
Switching energy suppliers, claiming the Warm Home Discount and home energy saving tips are some of our bestsellers.
This is where we'll be in the next few weeks (for future dates, see our Home Energy facebook page):
Downend, Bristol – Fri 18 March (10.00-12.00)
Bath Central – Weds 23 March (10.00-15.00)
Nailsea – Thurs 31 March (10.00-14.00)
Bedminster, Bristol – Weds 6 April (09.30-12.30)
The sessions are run entirely by our trained volunteers. They are typically from the area where the library is situated, so know what energy-related problems local people are most likely to want health with. Our volunteers are knowledgable and friendly, so if you're in the neighbourhood, drop in and say hello!
All this is part of our Big Lottery funded work. Anyone who qualifies will be offered more in depth support, such as a home visit or one-to-one advice from a caseworker.
