CSE helps council tenants claim tens of thousands

Calls flooding in for advice on electricity bill rebates

5 October 2015

Last winter our Tenants Energy Advice (TEA) service helped more than 500 tenants of Bristol City Council to claim over £70,000 worth of the Warm Home Discount (WHD).

CSE’s Jamie Walters who manages the service for the council says this year is looking just as promising:

“So far our advisors have helped tenants apply for £23,000 worth of WHD rebates on their electricity bills – £140 for each claimant. Throughout September we held workshops in Withywood, Henbury, Knowle West and Stockwood to help tenants apply. We’ve also had a steady stream of calls coming in to the advice centre in response to promotional text messages sent out by Bristol City Council. TEA advisors can check people’s eligibility over the phone and advise them on how to apply to their electricity supplier for the discount.”

We’ll have more workshops in the near future, and will get back in touch with everyone we helped last year to check their eligibility this time around. Workshop dates and locations will be uploaded to our Facebook page.

If you receive benefits and think you might be eligible, get in touch soon as funds are limited and are given out on a first come, first served basis.
