One thousand advised and counting…
A strong start for our partnership with Western Power Distribution
29 June 2015
“We’re delighted with what we've been able to achieve so far” was the response of project manager Jamie Walters, having reached the initial end-of-year target for our Advice Hub partnership with Western Power Distribution, at the halfway point.
Since January, we’ve given over 1,000 people on WPD's Priority Services Register (PSR) free energy advice and information. These are people who are elderly, or have long-term health issues that mean they rely on a constant supply of electricity. They are typically less able to access support, such as home energy advice, due to limited mobility and illness. The Advice Hub aims to tackle that, by proactively contacting those who’ve requested further help with energy advice at home.
“This represents a fantastic effort on behalf of the advisors in the team. Not only have they spoken to many, many people, but they’ve been able to give really in-depth, high quality advice on a range of topics” said Jamie.
In addition to the customers referred to us by WPD, we’ve been able to identify people who are eligible to be on the PSR through our other advice projects, get them signed up to the register, and offer them bespoke energy advice too. The team commonly advises on: switching supplier or tariff, income maximization (e.g. claiming the Warm Home Discount), schemes that offer funding for energy efficiency measures, upgrading heating systems and using heating controls, minimizing damp and mould in the home, and all manner of behavioural tips that save energy and lower bills.
The project will continue to reach new customers throughout the rest of the year, and Jamie believes that “we’ll be able to support twice as many people through the project as we first anticipated”.
