Plenty of advice for the weekend
The Home Energy Team were on the case at two big festivals
16 June 2014
It was a busy weekend for CSE's Home Energy Team, with our advisors and volunteers out and about at some local events.
In Bristol, the Festival of Nature kicked off the city's Big Green Week. Over in the (very hot) Green Forum Tent, our volunteer advisors set up shop with an energy advice stand, answering questions and provoking conversation.
Alongside giving advice, we asked visitors to write down their own idea or pledge for how they would save energy, and collected over 70 responses. These ranged from "shorter showers" or "turn things off at the wall" to "use the sun", and a fine suggestion from a younger visitor: "tun off the televijon and make your own show."
Meanwhile, Isobel White, our WISH caseworker, took an advice stand to the Green Scythe Fair in Muchelney, Somerset. It's a popular summer event in Somerset, but this was the first time the Home Energy Team had been there.
Alongside the excitement of the West Country Scythe Championship, she gave out a lot of energy advice. "I spoke 71 people so it was a huge success!" said Isobel. "People were there from Bristol, BANES, Devon, Wiltshire, Hampshire, Dorset and Somerset. They mainly wanted to get advice on solid wall insulation, switching suppliers, and condensation and mould, as well as finding out about renewable energy options and the Green Deal."
