More workshops for prepayment meter users
Making the switch to a better deal
9 May 2014
Our Home Energy Team is running a series of workshops in Bristol to help people who would like to switch from their key or card meter and start paying for their energy monthly instead.
Tenants around Bristol have found the workshops very useful so far. One participant shared how she lived in fear of being cut off if her prepayment credit ran out unexpectedly. "I'm excited that I might be able to save some money by getting a different meter," she said. "It's great that this workshop is free!"
Based on the need and appreciation there has been for these workshops, we're advertising two extra dates in June, in the communities of Lawrence Weston and Hartcliffe:
Wednesday 4 June | 10:00-13:00 | Lawrence Weston Youth Centre
Wednesday 25 June | 09:30-12:30 | Hartcliffe & Withywood Community Centre
To book a free place, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 0117 934 1400.
Paying for energy with a key or card prepayment meter is convenient for some people, especially on a weekly budget, but it's also the most expensive way to pay. The new benefits system, Universal Credit, will be paid to claimants once a month into their personal bank account. This will be an opportunity for a lot of people to start paying for their energy monthly instead of using a prepayment meter, meaning they can take advantage of better offers and tariffs.
These workshops help social housing tenants who would like to make the switch but are worried or unsure about budgeting monthly.
