Reports from the roadshow
What happened when PlanLoCaL hit the road
15 August 2013
Back in July, we took our new community energy resources on tour! The PlanLoCaL roadshow came to Birmingham, London and Bristol.
We were introducing community groups, and organisations who support them, to our new resource pack: 'PlanLoCaL: energy efficiency and community Green Deal'. It's a comprehensive guide for communities who want to start up an energy efficiency project, or see how they can get involved in the Green Deal.
It was great to meet so many people and hear their interesting ideas. We were really pleased to be joined by six guest speakers, and you can read their excellent presentations below:
Simon Ross, Marches Energy Agency
Community Knowledge Networks: an interactive approach to energy learning
Nigel Farren, Energise Barnet CIC

Phil Beardmore, Birmingham Social Enterprise Energy Network (BSEEN)

What is PlanLoCaL?
We also ran workshops on a few topics that are essential for any group starting up a project like this: understanding your area, planning permission, writing a community engagement strategy, managing risks, identifying funding opportunities, and exploring roles in the Green Deal. Other workshops introduced a few handy tools: our PlanLoCaL energy game, and our Housing Assessment Tool.
The attendees also enjoyed chatting together, hearing about one another's energy projects and getting some mutual encouragement and inspiration - along with a nice lunch.
