Entries flood in for CSE’s latest support scheme
Deadline passes for Community Energy Challenge
1 March 2012
More than 120 expressions of interest have been received for the latest CSE-managed project, the Co-operative's Community Energy Challenge. The closing date for submissions to the scheme, which aims to develop a “powerful set of community energy projects and help unleash a clean energy revolution across the UK”, was yesterday (Wednesday 29 February).
“We have been inundated with submissions in the last few days, and we’re really pleased to see the response we’ve had,” explained Rachel Coxcoon, who now has the unenviable position of narrowing the choice down to a maximum of 30 to take forward to the next stage of submitting a full bid.
“I think what this process has shown is the desire and need amongst groups in the UK to develop their own major renewable energy schemes in their own locality to secure their energy future. There is so much potential for major developments whether it be hydro, solar, wind or something else, so it’s exciting we will be able to take forward six to eight of these communities towards full development.”
Up to 30 groups will now be chosen and asked to submit a full bid, with CSE working with the groups to ensure the submissions are as strong as possible.
Groups who have submitted an expression of interest will find out on Friday 9 March whether they have been successful or not. Those that have will then have until 17:00 on Thursday 26 April to submit a full bid.
