PlanLoCaL website goes live
An effective tool for communities embarking on low-carbon projects
6 April 2011
Readers of this website are probably familiar by now with PlanLoCaL, CSE’s headline project that helps local communities influence local planning policy and contribute to a low-carbon future.
The project has now taken another major step forward with the launch of its website: www.planlocal.org.uk.
The website is packed with information and downloads that can help community groups:
- take greater control over shaping their community and its low-carbon future
- have direct and meaningful influence on planning policy
- explore low-carbon measures in existing local buildings, businesses and lifestyles
- reap the financial rewards (e.g. feed-in tariff income) and the social benefits that come from owning and managing low-carbon assets
And just a couple of weeks after its debut, the site has been winning accolades. It was praised as strongly engaging and effective, and cited as a model for community-oriented websites by community activists.
Particularly exciting is the video section that contains 49 short films covering a huge range of topics including introductions to the different renewable energy technologies, project management, funding, dealing with planning, consulting with the community and heritage issues.
You can also see case studies of 11 communities that have successfully got renewable energy projects off the ground and, in some cases, are generating cash to be ploughed back into other neighbourhood benefits. The groups explain the challenges they face as well as the results they achieved.
The videos can also be viewed on CSE’s YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/user/csebristol#p/u, but they look better on the PlanLoCaL site and we recommend you watch them there, www.planlocal.org.uk/videos.
