We’re looking for the next cohort of young people who are passionate about the environment and want to gain the skills and knowledge to create a different world.

Applications are open to join CSE’s Bright Green Future (BGF) programme in April 2024. BGF is a free six-month environmental training programme for 16-19-year-olds.

The programme will give young people the knowledge, skills and confidence to make a difference in the world, whatever they choose to do after the programme.

This experience has been a once in a lifetime kind of thing and I value every moment so much! It helped me get in touch with my own connection to nature and other like-minded people.

BGF graduate

Here’s what current and previous students think about BGF. Plus why we encourage young people of colour to apply to improve diversity in the environmental sector…

Find out more about BGF and how to apply here. You can also email and follow on Instagram

Why join the BGF programme?

Friendship and community

You’ll be joining a diverse group of 25 young people passionate about creating change. Everyone will meet during our immersive residential where you’ll connect through workshops, outdoor activities and toasting marshmallows around the fire!

Find out more about sustainability through an online course on a topic of your choice. This includes food, energy, climate adaptation and global sustainability. You’ll share what you’re learning with other students in small groups… and find out what other people are up to on their course.

Join interactive career webinars where you’ll get to meet different people working in jobs having a positive impact. You can ask them questions and find out about their journey.

You’ll work in a group with five students to create a workshop on a topic of your choice. At our Graduation Day, each group will run an interactive workshop, inspiring the other students to take action on your topic. Before this, we’ll run expert-led training, giving you the skills and knowledge to design a workshop with impact.

Once you’ve completed Bright Green Future, you’ll receive a certificate, and we can also give references. You can then join our thriving alumni network to keep connecting and learning with other people who’ve done Bright Green Future.

All students also get the option to have career mentoring with staff from our headline sponsor the National Grid ESO.

Here’s what a previous BGF student said about the positive impact of the programme: “I feel like I can have a huge impact. BGF has given me the tools to tackle things in new ways so that a better solution can be brought about”.
