Free home retrofit workshops in Westbury-on-Trym
The Bristol Heat Pump Ready project is a collaboration between local organisations to help you understand everything you need to know about heat pumps and how to make your home more comfortable and sustainable.
As well as advising on heat pumps, there’s plenty of information and guidance about energy saving home improvement measures suitable for you.
Bristol Energy Network (BEN), a partner on the project, is running a series of workshops to introduce you to the world of home retrofit. The ‘Warm-up, Skill-up’ workshops will cover different options of home retrofit and how you can begin to make energy efficiency improvements suitable for your unique home.

All the Warm up Skill up workshops are free to attend and focus on various important topics. You’ll hear impartial, expert advice from Bristol Energy Network and ideas and insights to adapt to your home. Each workshop will take place at Westbury-on-Trym Library, Falcondale Road BS9 3JZ.

Where to start – Tuesday 12 September, 19:30 to 21:30.
Explore what home surveys are out there, what low-cost DIY measures you can install in your home, the difference between ‘shallow’ and ‘deep’ retrofit, and available funding options to support your journey.
Floor and loft insulation choices – Tuesday 19 September, 19:30 to 21:30.
A deep dive into different options for insulating your floors and loft. Insulation helps to keep warm air inside your home so less energy is used for heating and your home feels warmer.
Wall and chimney insulation – Tuesday 26 September, 19:30 to 21:30.
Heat is lost through your walls, insulating these will help reduce the waste. Whether you have solid or cavity walls or are unsure which ones you have, this workshop will help. Knowing how to insulate your chimney will also stop warm air from escaping.
Windows, doors and conservatories – Tuesday 3 October, 19:30 to 21:30.
Find out all you need to know about draughtproofing and how to block up any gaps that let cold air in. You’ll also find out about cold bridging and how to improve it.
Damp, air quality and home ventilation – Tuesday 10 October, 19:30 to 21:30.
Your home and physical health is impacted by damp, mould and condensation. Find out what causes this and how to remove it and stop it from returning.
Intro to heat pumps and renewable energy at home – Tuesday 17 October, 19:30 to 21:30.
Once you have taken steps to make your home as energy efficient as possible, you can explore suitable low-carbon heating options for your home.
