Planning Renewables website
Developing an improved website for planners and councillors across England
This project aimed to give planners and councillors across England the opportunity to benefit from improved resources with an updated and redesigned Planning Renewables website, www.planningrenewables.org.uk.
The site contains a whole wealth of new and improved information and resources to aid the decision-making of planners and councillors, as well as making the site much easier to use.
As well as including links and documents in the Resource Bank, there will also be new sections for Briefing Notes, Technical Notes and Case Studies. Information about the Expert Support Network, which was trialled earlier in the year, is also contained on the site. The results of the trial are currently being examined to see whether there is an opportunity it could continue long-term.
The website was originally created with the aim of providing the most up-to-date and useful information in relation to the development of renewable energy projects. It now covers a huge range of areas from wind and biomass, through to solar power and waste-to-energy.
It arose out of feedback from more than 1,000 attendees to an on-going series of workshops on renewable energy for councillors and planning officers provided by CSE. These workshops were launched in 2004 as part of the then DTI's (now DECC’s) 'It's Only Natural' campaign.
