Supporting the development of eco-schools in Bristol
Providing support to 15 Bristol schools in progressing towards achieving an Eco School award
The aim of this project is to support 15 Bristol schools in their progress towards Eco School accreditation (www.eco-schools.org.uk).
The project aims to strengthen the support provided to schools by external agencies by improving communications between each school and encouraging mutual support. Regular newsletters will be part of this.
Schools taking part in the project include: Ashley Down Junior School, Brentry Primary School, Bridge Farm Primary School, Horfield Primary School, Hotweells Primary School, Luckwell Primary School, Sea Mills Infant School, Sea Mills Junior School, St Bernadette Primary School, St Bonaventure s Primary School, St Teresaís Primary School, Stockwood Green Primary School, West Town Lane Infants School, Westbury on Trym Primary School, Stockwood Green Primary. (You can check on each school's progresson the Eco Schools website: www.eco-schools.org.uk)
Schools will be offered a package of support that includes:
- A briefing of the scheme and expected commitment required
- A training day to introduce the seven modules of Eco Schools, to help schools address their priorities within the scheme and to start networking
- A half-day event to inspire and encourage each school's Eco Action Team of pupils
- Support sessions delivered in the schools and back up by phone and email
It will, further, encourage schools that are not currently part of the scheme to follow the progress of the schools that are and learn any lessons from their experience. The project will also invite other NGOs providing environmental education to support the Eco Schools scheme, become involved and promote the services they offer.
To date, all schools have progressed through the awards. Luckwell Primary has achieved its green flag, while three other schools in Bristol will soon be assessed. A celebration event is being planned for summer 2007.
