Sarah Davies
Head of Advice, Education & Community Initiatives (Strategy)

Sarah joined CSE in February 2008 in the new role of Head of Advice, Education and Community Initiatives. Her previous job was as the National Co-ordinator for Food Links UK and she has worked in project development and management in the sustainable development sector for 11 years.

Sarah has extensive experience of working in and with the voluntary and community sector as well as six years as part of the public health team in the NHS. Her last eight years have been focused on developing sustainable food systems, initially working at a local level in East Sussex before moving on to lead the national initiative, Food Links UK.

Throughout her career Sarah has worked to engage people in the sustainability agenda and ensure community involvement and ownership. This has included the development of education and awareness programmes, supporting the establishment of grassroots community projects and campaigns, community-led estate regeneration initiatives, running public consultations and youth work.

Sarah has direct practical experience of partnership working at a local, regional, national and international level. She has recently stepped down from being a Director of AlimenTerra, a European network of organisations working on Sustainable Food Systems, where she led on the delivery of a European wide food and tourism project.

Sarah is also an experienced fundraiser. In her last post for Food Links UK she secured £2.6m as part of a national consortium, launching two national programmes on 'local food supply and distribution'­ and 'food coops and buying groups'­. Whilst working for the NHS she secured £1m for the establishment of a Food and Health Programme, which she then managed.

Sarah has an MSc in Food Policy.

Sarah Jeffrey (currently on maternity leave)
Head of Advice, Education & Community Initiatives (Operations)

Sarah is currently on maternity leave.

Sarah joined CSE in June 2005 and is currently on maternity leave. Sarah'­s current role sees her managing and developing the three strands of the team; advice provision to householders, engagement with community groups and education of young people both inside and outside of school. Her role focuses on managing her team, budgetary management, project development and contributions to CSE'­s communications and publicity.

In her previous role at CSE, Sarah demonstrated extensive experience in developing and managing projects to engage all sections of the community in new and innovative ways. This includes the transition to the new model of advice delivery on behalf of the Energy Saving Trust and developing and fostering relationships with other third sector organisations to deliver effective fuel poverty advice.

Sarah graduated from the University of Manchester with a BA in English Language and Literature in 2000. Since then, Sarah has gained over 8 years of experience of working in the third sector. Previous roles include a fundraising and grant management role at Help the Aged and a project management role at the British Heart Foundation, managing aspects of a £1m specialist nurse project.

Danni Barrett
Energy Advisor

Danni originally joined CSE in 2008, and rejoined the team in August 2010 after a brief spell in Scotland. She works on a range of domestic and community advice projects including the Energy Saving Trust’s Green Communities programme.

Danni has previously worked in a range of environmental roles, including stints as an education officer, a recycling officer, an environmental researcher and a Climate Challenge project manager. She has also volunteered for a number of social and environmental organisations, including ANAI in Costa Rica, the South Downs Voluntary Rangers, Climate Action Bedminster and Emmaus. She graduated from Portsmouth University in 2005, with a First Class BSc (Hons) in Sustainable Design and Environmental Management.

Heather Crane
Energy Advisor

Heather began working at CSE in May 2009, where she has two roles; as an energy advisor within the Energy Saving Trust advice centre and a project worker for the Green Communities scheme.

Her work experience is very wide ranging and she has previously been employed as an estate agent, an HR advisor, a geomatics analyst at the Environment Agency, as well as volunteering on organic farms in Italy.

Heather also has a Geographic Information Science degree from Newcastle University and a masters in Meteorology and Climatology in 2008 from Birmingham University.

Liz Dagger
Community Outreach Worker

Liz joined CSE in March 2005. In her role as an outreach worker she spends a lot of time out and about, promoting energy efficiency in the local Bristol community and further afield in rural Somerset.

In her varied career Liz has held a number of public-facing jobs enabling her to communicate well with people from all walks of life. She has previously: worked at NatWest Bank for 23 years, worked in her local post office, worked as a learning support assistant at a south Bristol secondary school with young people aged 11-16 who had special educational needs, and has even been a lollipop lady!

Morgan Griffin
Energy Advisor

Morgan joined CSE in September 2007 as an Energy Advisor in the South West Energy Saving Trust advice centre. Her role involves giving advice to the public on how to save energy and also information on what grants are available to improve energy efficiency in the home.

Morgan graduated from the University of Bristol in 2005 with a BSc in Geology, and has since had various administration and customer service focused jobs, such as providing training and advice to carehomes. In addition, she is also a shift co-ordinator for Bristol's Amnesty International Bookshop.

Helen Grimshaw
Energy Advisor

Helen joined CSE in November 2009 and works as an energy advisor for the South West Energy Saving Trust advice centre. Her role involves giving advice to householders on saving energy, including information about grants and local schemes.

Helen has a BA in Geography from the University of Manchester, graduating in July 2007. Following this she worked as an energy advisor for the Lancashire Energy Efficiency advice centre. She also has experience in a number of voluntary and customer service roles and is a member of Tribewanted, a project to develop a sustainable community on a small island in Northern Fiji.

Helen is currently studying towards an MSc in Sustainability, Planning and Environmental Policy at Cardiff University.

Michael McClelland
Senior Scheme Administrator

Mike worked in both the public and private sectors prior to joining CSE in January 2009. He most recently worked in a Bristol letting agent, and has a customer services background built up through his professional experience since graduating in 2002. This led to a role within CSE helping customers with queries and enquiries in relation to their grant scheme referrals alongside other administrative duties.

Away from CSE, Mike runs his own business from home attempting to adopt the environmental and sustainable practises that he is passionate about.

Phillip Morris
Senior Project Manager

Phillip joined CSE in August 2009. He manages Warm Streets, a Somerset-wide project which aims to help householders access grants for home insulation, promote sustainable energy solutions, and increase the uptake of benefits in the area by making sure householders receive all their relevant benefits.

Phillip also manages the Bristol Energy Efficiency Scheme (BEES) which is run on behalf of Bristol City Council and provides free and discounted measures to make homes across Bristol warmer and more comfortable.

Before joining CSE, Phillip managed a number of national energy efficiency projects for Bristol-based sustainability consultancy, Sustain. Phillip is also a trained Domestic Energy Assessor and has worked in water resources planning and hydrometry for the Environment Agency. Phillip has a BSc degree in Environmental Science from the University of the West of England.

Bridget Newbery
Community Projects Manager

Bridget started working for CSE in September 2009. Her role is as a Community Project Manager, where she manages and develops community work for a number of energy-related projects, which include Warming Mendip, Warm Streets and an exciting new schools project in Bristol.

Previously, Bridget has worked in a number of project management roles over the last 10 years for a range of public, private and voluntary sector organisations, which include community projects and sustainable development initiatives. Bridget also has a BSC degree in Environmental Science from Southampton University.

Lisa Pinchen
Senior Energy Advisor

Lisa joined CSE in September 2002 and advises members of the public who are living in fuel poverty. She has extensive experience of outreach and energy advice having worked on a range of our local authority supported projects and on the Energy Saving Trust advice centre.

Prior to arriving at CSE, Lisa followed a career in healthcare. She was previously employed by Rethink (formerly National Schizophrenia Fellowship) helping people who suffer with mental health problems to live independently, and for United Bristol Healthcare Trust, researching the services available for physically disabled school leavers. Lisa has also picked up many skills working on a telephone advice line for people in crisis.

Lisa has a degree in Health and Community Studies and has gained the City & Guilds Energy Awareness qualification.

Helen Richardson
Energy Advice Services Manager

Helen joined CSE in March 2007. As well as overseeing the delivery of the Southwest Energy Saving Trust advice centre she manages two advice projects. The first of these, the Bristol Energy Advice Partnership, aims to improve the lives of black and other ethnic minority communities in Bristol, living in cold, damp homes, struggling to pay fuel bills or at risk of falling into arrears. The project particularly focuses on helping the city's large Somali population. The project assists these groups through working in partnership with local agencies to deliver home visits, training and presentations to community groups.

The second of Helen's projects is Warmer Improved Somerset Homes (WISH), a project working in partnership with the Somerset home improvement agencies to provide in-depth support to elderly residents living in rural locations across the county. The service provides advice and support on energy efficiency, home improvements and benefits advice.

Before joining CSE Helen was an energy advisor at Energy Projects Plus in Cheshire and also managed a number of projects there including the Schools Energy Awareness Programme. Helen has a BSc (Hons) degree in Geography and Environmental Management from the University of the West of England.

Louise Rutterford
Community Projects Manager

Louise joined CSE in March 2006 and has worked on a wide range of projects providing both domestic and community advice as well as feeding in to more technical aspects of energy saving projects and CSE'­s research work.

Louise now manages a range of community and advice project work at CSE as well as providing expert advice to communities through direct project involvement and providing specialist energy training to community members.

Louise has a BSc (Hons) in Biology and an MRes in Ecology and Environmental Management both from York University, where her research focussed on the impacts of human behaviour on the environment and particularly climate change on ecosystem function. She has previous work experience in the environmental field as an Information Officer at the Centre for Alternative Technology and as an Environment Officer with British Waterways.

Pauline Sandell
Fuel Poverty Advisor

Pauline started at CSE in September 2007. She works on CSE­s community projects including Warming Mendip and Warm Streets and specialise in giving  benefits advice as a way to assist clients to maximise their income, as well as being able to access grants that are available for householders. In addition to this, she also gives energy efficiency advice, which can be over the phone or through going out into the community to give talks and presentations to community groups.

Prior to joining CSE Pauline has had a varied career. She is a qualified nurse and worked for many years in the NHS. She has also taught legal aspect of medical practice and contract law; she has worked as a para legal in a medium sized law firm and was a money advice caseworker at the Citizen­s Advice Bureau. Pauline is learning Swedish.

Verity Saunders (currently on maternity leave)
Senior Community Project Manager

 

Verity is currently on maternity leave.

Verity joined CSE in July 2001 following completion of her degree in Geography and Environmental Studies at the University of the West of England and a spell working at the South West Regional Development Agency in Bristol.

 

She currently works 3 days a week managing the Energy Saving Trust'­s Green Communities programme, which replaces the highly successful Community Action for Energy programme. Verity ran this for over four years and it involved overseeing a national training programme, a 3000-member support network and an annual conference.

Over the years Verity has also managed a number of community outreach projects for CSE including Energy in Action, Warming Mendip, Bristol Energy Action Network, Benefiting from Warmth and WISH (Warmer Improved Somerset Homes).

Mark Tyler
Energy Advisor

Mark joined CSE in January 2008, and works as Energy Advisor in the South West Energy Saving Trust advice centre. His role involves giving advice to the public on how to save energy; information on renewable technologies; how to recycle/dispose of waste; methods of water conservation; and also information on what grants are available to improve energy efficiency in the home. Within the advice centre Mark is additionaly the dedicated renewables advisor, meaning he deals with any complex enquiries and keeps up to date on any developments within the renewables industry.

Recently Mark has taken on the role of the Green Communities advisor for Bristol and Somerset and this position currently involves working closely with one community, to help them to develop and implement a carbon reduction plan over the course of a year. 

Prior to CSE Mark worked for the Financial Services Authority advising members of the public on a number of issues relating to their personal finances. Mark is studying towards a BSc (Hons) degree in Environmental Studies through the Open University. He has also gained the NEA/City & Guilds 6176 Energy Awareness qualification.

Jamie Walters
Energy Advice Team Leader

Jamie joined CSE as part of the Finance and Administration team in 2001. He moved to the Energy Efficiency Advice Centre a year later where he built up several years experience as a senior energy adviser, a role involving face-to-face and over-the-phone advice to the public. He promotes energy efficiency at local events and has made several appearances on BBC local radio. He has also worked with local authorities to enable them to gather data for Home Energy Conservation Act reporting. Jamie is now team leader of the Bristol hub of the South West Energy Saving Trust advice centre.

Before he joined CSE Jamie was the Local Finance Administrator for Community Service Volunteers (CSV). Prior to this he volunteered at the Bristol Cyrenians day centre for street homeless people before spending several years working for the organisation as a project worker working with adults with mental health problems. 

Jamie has a BSc (Hons) Geography from the University of Plymouth. He also has the NEA/City & Guilds 6176 Energy Awareness qualification.

James Watt
Energy Advisor

James began working for CSE in September 2009 as an Energy Advisor. His role involves working within the Energy Saving Trust advice centre and also with the Green Communities team.

He was previously employed at Bristol City Council, where he was involved in helping single, homeless people find housing. James has also worked as a windsurfing instructor on the Isles of Scilly for many years as well as working for Radio Scilly.

James has an English degree from Plymouth University and a MA in Professional Writing from University College Falmouth.

Paul Winney
Energy Advisor

Paul joined CSE in December 2009 as an Energy Advisor. He previously worked for the Energy Saving Trust advice centre Swindon hub. His role involves giving advice to the public on how to save energy; information on renewable technologies; transport advice such as fuel efficiencies of cars; and providing information on grants for energy saving measures.
Paul has completed a BSc (Hons) in Wildlife Conservation from the University of Plymouth and has previously worked for conservation charities such as the Barn Owl Trust and Moor Trees. He has also passed the City and Guilds Energy Awareness and Renewable Energy in the Home courses.
