Energy efficiency training for adult and community learners
Energy efficiency training for adult and community learners
Short courses aimed at learners with no prior energy knowledge
20 December 2011
CSE is being funded to run a series of five short courses in energy efficiency, aimed at people of all ages and with no prior knowledge of the subject.
The following courses are being offered and will be held at CSE's offices in Bedminster, Bristol (for full list of dates and times, see below):
1) Energy Basics (2.5 hours)
- How to reduce energy use at home
- What renewable energy systems are suitable for homes
- How to treat damp and condensation problems
- Hints and tips to pass on to other people and where to go for further advice
2) Energy Outreach (3.5 hours)
- Demonstration of insulation materials and using energy monitors
- How to get your message across
- How to run outreach events
- Giving successful presentations
3) Reading Meters and setting controls (3 hours)
- How to help others to set their heating controls and take meter readings
- Hints and tips to pass on to other people and where to go for further advice
4) Practical Draughtbusting (3.5 hours)
- How to lead a draughtbusting workshop in the home
- Hands-on practice with a range of draught proofing materials to stop draughts around the home
In addition, we are hoping to run a longer course called How to conduct a Home Energy Check. Details have still to be finalised, but the proposed format is a 'theory' element (2 days) and a practical session (2.5 hours) which between them will demonstrate how to do home energy checks for friends, neighbours or group members, and how to provide advice and recommend improvements. Details will appear on this page when we have them.

CSE's Lead Trainer, Anna Watts, said: "We're focussing this training on areas of the city with high levels of fuel poverty. Not only will the courses show people how they can lower their fuel bills, but they are designed to give the learners the knowledge and capacity to take their new skills back to their communities and share it with others."
The aim is to create a network of local energy volunteers who can work within their communities to tackle climate change and cope with rising fuel prices.

This project has been funded by the Skills Funding Agency.
