Bristol Questions Energy Policy for 21st Century
1 October 2000
The Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE) hosted a high profile "Question Time" session on 29th September at The CREATE Centre. Philip Ward (Director of Energy, Environment and Waste at the Department for the Environment, Transport and the Regions), Don Foster MP (Liberal Democrats Shadow Secretary for Environment, Transport the Regions and Social Justice), Mark Johnston (Energy Campaigner at Friends of the Earth) and Michael King (Chair of National Right to Fuel Campaign) took questions from an extensive audience spanning the energy field.
The event was part of an afternoon conference on Sustainable Energy in the 21st Century and was held to celebrate CSE's 21st birthday. It is particularly timely in light of the recent fuel crisis and concerns about climate change. CSE will use the results of the debate to develop recommendations for informing UK energy policy in the 21st Century.
Peter Capener, CSE's Chief Executive, said "A sustainable energy policy should address affordable warmth, renewable energy supply and energy conservation in a concerted and coordinated programme that brings together social, environmental and economic issues. We hope today will help develop an agenda for action on sustainable energy issues."
