CSE seeks sustainable energy solutions that engage people and communities to meet real needs for both environmentally sound and affordable energy services. We work with individuals and organisations from public, private and voluntary sectors on a wide range of initiatives at local, regional and national level.
|
As employers, landlords, policy-makers and civic leaders, local authorities are key players in the shift to reducing the energy we use, getting more from renewable sources and tackling fuel poverty. CSE provides the support local authorities need to meet their targets more effectively, from training staff, devising energy strategies and carrying out energy audits to delivering energy education in schools.

Through our own direct experience, CSE has amassed a comprehensive knowledge of what works and what doesn’t work in sustainable energy. This underpins our policy and research work as we seek to disseminate the lessons we’ve learned with well-grounded policy advice to Government, regulators and other key agencies. And we provide robust research, evaluation and analysis of relevant policy, regulation and practice.

CSE believes that it is only with the support, cooperation and active participation of communities that we will see real changes in the way we use and source energy. CSE therefore provides a range of services to engage people – from training volunteers and facilitating consultation to providing advice and project development. Our aim is to help communities understand the issues – often by making links with existing concerns such as poverty, housing and health – and find appropriate local solutions.

Making sure that households, businesses and communities receive appropriate energy advice is essential to improving energy efficiency, reducing fuel poverty and providing sustainable energy solutions. CSE has experience of developing and delivering innovative energy advice projects for a wide range of partners. As part of the national network of advice centres, we run the Bristol & Somerset Energy Advice Centre and the local Action Energy advice service for small businesses.

Businesses are notorious for paying little attention to the cost of energy and the ways they use it. CSE therefore provides the advice, training, technical support and awareness-raising which can help businesses – large and small – understand and secure the direct commercial benefits and real environmental improvement of improving energy performance.

It is never too late to learn something new about the way we use energy, and it has never been more important to improve understanding of the environmental and social issues associated with energy. While CSE’s schools programmes and resources aim to catch future citizens young, our training service concentrates on equipping adults – as householders or employees, policy-makers or citizens – to look at energy from a fresh perspective.
